A Fairy’s Friend

All around you, fairies fly.

Flit and flutter, tumble, tw
irl,

When the wind blows, fairies swirl…

So begins this entrancing children’s book by fabulous author Sue Fliess and illustrator Claire Keane. If you’ve ever wanted to catch a fairy, this book is the perfect how-to. Little girls will love following the instructions specified, traipsing through the backyard, building little fairy homes, and waiting to see a special friend arrive. The pictures are simple with a soft color palette and the easy-to-read rhymes will be fun for both adults and children.

I loved this book, because it was so accessible, fun, and whimsical. But one of the best parts, for me, was the art. Claire Keane is the daughter of notable artist Glen Keane, one of the top minds behind some of Disney’s most memorable characters. Her art is very reminiscent of Mary Blair’s and the concept art for Disney classics such as Peter Pan, Alice in Wonderland, and Cinderella. For Disney fans, this book will have the same enjoyable narrative and style as their favorite films.
